The Fiji Police Force is encouraging the community to resolve conflicts peacefully rather than taking drastic actions that could jeopardize their safety and well-being. This message follows an incident early in the morning along the Suva foreshore near the Fiji Police Academy, where a police officer intervened in a domestic dispute.
According to police reports, the duty officer at the Fiji Police Academy overheard a couple arguing around 3 a.m. and responded to the situation. Upon arrival, he discovered that a woman, who appeared to be intoxicated, was attempting to harm herself. The officer stepped in to help her partner safely bring her back to shore, where he facilitated a dialogue to help the couple resolve their differences.
The police also reminded Fijians that alcohol is not a solution to problems, warning that excessive drinking can worsen unresolved issues and may lead to serious consequences, including death.
