The Fiji Police Force has reported a significant breakthrough in their efforts to combat drug cultivation following two successful raids conducted by the Western Division Serious Organised Crime Intelligence Department (SOCID) in the Malua range of Navosa. These operations resulted in the seizure of over 2,000 marijuana plants.
The police team undertook a challenging mission, traversing the rugged terrain of the highlands based on tips regarding marijuana cultivation in the area. They spent the night there to ensure the raids were executed effectively. During the first raid, over 1,800 plants were discovered, while the second operation yielded more than 900 plants, ranging in height from 10 cm to 2.5 meters, all suspected to be marijuana.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized the importance of these seizures in disrupting the illegal supply chain, which is vital in the fight against drug-related crime. He noted that recent weeks have seen numerous arrests, with suspects charged and brought before the courts. ACP Driu praised the community’s collaboration and information-sharing that contributed to these significant discoveries and previous arrests.
This proactive approach by the Fiji Police demonstrates a commitment to enhancing public safety and addressing drug-related issues effectively. The successful raid not only highlights the diligence of law enforcement but also underscores the role of community cooperation in tackling drug cultivation and distribution.
In summary, these recent police operations could serve as a crucial turning point in Fiji’s ongoing battle against illegal drug trafficking, showcasing the effectiveness of teamwork between the police and the community.
