In a significant step towards restoring integrity and enhancing public trust, Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew, along with senior leadership, has undergone drug testing. This initiative is part of a comprehensive effort to maintain a clean and drug-free Fiji Police Force.

Acting Commissioner Chew highlighted the importance of leadership in setting a positive example for a drug-free workplace. He stated, “We are finalising a mandatory drug testing policy, developed in consultation with the Solicitor General’s Office, in line with Fiji’s laws.” He emphasized that the police leadership must lead the way in transforming public perceptions regarding police involvement in drug-related matters.

The initiative encompasses the police’s senior ranks, including the Acting Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioners, reinforcing a commitment to accountability. Additionally, high-ranking officials within the Command group have also participated in the drug testing.

The proposed mandatory drug testing policy aims to align with best practices observed in international law enforcement agencies. Acting Commissioner Chew noted the importance of addressing public concerns regarding police involvement in illegal drug activities. “We recognize that public trust in the police has been eroded by various factors, particularly the perception of police officers being involved in drug-related activities. Our goal is to foster a drug-free institution that operates without corruption or misconduct,” he stated.

This initiative marks just one of several measures being implemented to ensure professionalism within the police force. Commissioner Chew affirmed that all new policies would be designed carefully, in consultation with the Solicitor General’s Office, ensuring compliance with Fiji’s legal standards and best practices.

The Fiji Police Force is taking proactive steps to rebuild public trust, demonstrating a commitment to transparency and accountability. These recent actions set a hopeful precedent for a future where the force operates with integrity and professionalism.

In summary, the Fiji Police Force is implementing a mandatory drug testing policy led by senior leadership to restore public confidence and ensure a drug-free environment within the institution.
