The Fiji Police Force has reiterated its dedication to its responsibilities outlined in the Counter Narcotics Strategy, focusing on supply reduction through both reactive and proactive policing efforts.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu addressed concerns about reported police inaction regarding arrests in the illegal drug trade. He emphasized, “We are making arrests almost daily, which reflects our ongoing commitment, with each arrest and seizure contributing to our overall reduction initiatives.”

Driu mentioned that all information received is thoroughly evaluated and acted upon in due time. He pointed out that different drug operations vary in nature, with some requiring more time to execute, as the primary goal is to ensure successful prosecutions. Several units, including the Fiji Detector Dog Unit, FPF K9 Unit, and Serious Organized Crime and Intelligence Unit, support divisional operations.

In addition to enforcement efforts, Driu noted that officers are engaging various community sectors through proactive community policing. He highlighted the significant role of the community, mentioning a positive shift toward collaboration with law enforcement, as evidenced by the many invitations received for community awareness events.

Driu is encouraging community members to connect with their Crime Prevention Committees and Neighbourhood Watch Zones through their local Divisional Manager Community Policing.
