The Fiji Police Force has issued a statement to clarify that there are no credible reports of individuals injecting drugs into coconuts, a phenomenon that had sparked considerable concern among the community. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu reassured the public about the misleading nature of these rumors.

On November 21st, an individual alerted the Samabula operations team during a mobile patrol in the Namadi area about two men acting suspiciously. The officers quickly intervened and located the two individuals walking along a footpath. After conducting a thorough search, no drugs or other illicit items were found on them. ACP Driu noted that the individuals in question are known for selling coconuts along Princess Road, which may have contributed to the misunderstandings surrounding their actions.

The police department has emphasized the importance of accurate information sharing and encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities. They assured that any information provided would be treated confidentially and that the community can verify issues with the authorities.

This incident highlights the crucial role of public awareness and communication in maintaining community safety. Instead of succumbing to fear or speculation, the community is encouraged to rely on the police for verified information. Such proactive engagement can lead to stronger relationships between citizens and law enforcement, fostering a safer environment for all.

In summary, the Fiji Police Force has dispelled rumors regarding drug-related activities involving coconuts, reassuring the public that the reported incidents are unfounded.
