The Fiji Police Force rugby team is determined to fiercely defend the Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl this year. This commitment was emphasized during a recent visit by the Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew, and the command group to the team’s training camp in Nadi.
In a statement on their Facebook page, Police Rugby president, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mesake Waqa, expressed that the players and officials are resolute in their mission to honor their organization, families, and supporters by winning the title. The Shop N Save Police Blues rugby team is gearing up with enthusiasm for their match against the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) scheduled for Saturday, November 9, at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
Waqa highlighted that the Acting Commissioner’s message to the athletes emphasized humility and the understanding that every team competes vigorously to win. He acknowledged the fervor with which the RFMF will also approach the upcoming match.
As the Fiji Police Force celebrates its 150th anniversary, Waqa noted their aspiration towards excellence, aiming to assemble the best rugby team to represent the values of their families, friends, and both past and present police officers. He recognized the challenging road ahead, but also extended wishes of goodwill to their opponents, looking forward to a competitive game on November 9.
To rally support, Waqa encouraged all Police supporters to attend the match. He also conveyed best wishes to the RFMF as the hosts of this year’s tournament, which kicks off next Tuesday with boxing competitions.
Fostering community spirit through sports, and with both teams committed to excellence, this year’s tournament promises to be an exciting event that emphasizes camaraderie and rivalry in equal measure.
A hopeful outlook emerges as both teams prepare—not only for the competition ahead but also for the celebration of sportsmanship and unity in the Fiji Police Force’s 150-year legacy.
