Law enforcement agencies are ramping up their efforts to dismantle illegal marijuana operations as the festive season approaches. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu reported significant progress, including a raid conducted by Savusavu Police in the Viani area, where over 200 suspected marijuana plants were confiscated.
In a separate operation in the Navosa highlands, authorities seized more than 1,000 plants that are also believed to be marijuana. The owners of these farms are still being identified. ACP Driu expressed that these successful seizures contribute positively to the proactive measures aimed at curbing supply, especially since some of the plants were reportedly being prepared for distribution.
In addition to rural raids, police operations in urban areas have also proven effective. This morning, ACP Driu announced a successful search at a carrier stand in Suva, where several parcels of dried leaves, suspected to be marijuana, were found in two vehicles.
The investigation is ongoing, and suspects have been taken into custody. ACP Driu assured the public that the Fiji Police Force is fully committed to maintaining its momentum in disrupting illicit networks and cautioned that any attempts to hinder these efforts will not succeed.
This proactive approach to law enforcement signals a dedication to public safety and a collaborative effort to eliminate illegal drug operations in the community. The ongoing investigations and swift actions by the police demonstrate a strong resolve to protect citizens and maintain the wellbeing of society.
In summary, Fiji’s police are intensifying their efforts to combat illegal marijuana farming as part of a broader strategy to reduce drug supply during the festive season, showcasing a commitment to community safety.
