The Fiji Police Force has reiterated its commitment to its responsibilities under the Counter Narcotics Strategy aimed at reducing drug supply through both proactive and reactive policing methods.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu provided these assurances in response to concerns regarding alleged police inaction against those engaged in the illicit drug trade. He emphasized, “We are making arrests almost daily, reflecting our continuous efforts, with each arrest and seizure contributing to our overall reduction strategies.”

ACP Driu noted that all incoming information is thoroughly evaluated and acted upon appropriately. He explained that drug operations vary in complexity and can take time to implement, with the primary goal being successful prosecutions. Several units support the division’s operational tasks, including the Fiji Detector Dog Unit, the FPF K9 Unit, and the Serious Organized Crime and Intelligence Unit.

In addition to enforcement actions, the police are actively engaging with various community sectors through community policing initiatives. “The community plays a significant role, and we have observed a notable shift in willingness to collaborate with law enforcement, demonstrated by the number of invitations for community awareness efforts we receive,” Driu stated.

He also encouraged community members to connect with their Crime Prevention Committees and Neighbourhood Watch Zones through their respective Divisional Manager for Community Policing.
