The Fiji Police Force is currently conducting an investigation into an accident that occurred on Friday involving a collision between a container trailer and a minibus carrying six passengers. The incident took place near Lokuya Hill, past the Verata Junction, along Kings Road, as the vehicles were traveling towards Korovou Town in Tailevu North.
Authorities have confirmed that both drivers and all six passengers were transported to Korovou Hospital for medical attention following the collision. As the investigation unfolds, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, who oversees the Traffic Division, has called on public service vehicle (PSV) drivers to exercise greater caution while on the roads.
“This is the second incident this week involving PSVs, and innocent passengers are becoming victims on our roads,” emphasized SSP Divuana. This statement highlights the increasing concern over road safety for passengers utilizing public transport.
The need for heightened road safety measures is paramount, especially in light of recent accidents involving public transport. It is hoped that the ongoing investigations will lead to improvements in safety protocols, thereby fostering a safer environment for all road users in Fiji. The community is urged to stay informed and vigilant in support of efforts to mitigate such incidents in the future.
In summary, while this incident sheds light on the existing risk factors associated with public transportation, it also underlines the importance of road safety awareness and the collective responsibility of all drivers to ensure the safety of passengers and fellow road users.
