Fiji Police Pay Tribute with Historic Bowl Win

The Fiji Police Force (FPF) celebrated their first Armed Native Constabulary (ANC) Bowl victory, dedicating the win to past officers who laid the groundwork for their success. This remark came from head coach Solomone Nute after the team triumphed 45-31 against the Fiji Corrections Service at the Nasova grounds in Suva yesterday.

The bowl was awarded to the leaders of both forces by Turaga Na Vunivalu of Bau, Ratu Epenisa Cakobau. This historic match was the inaugural meeting between the two security forces, coinciding with FPF’s 150th Sesquicentennial Anniversary, and it will now be held annually.

The Blues showcased their prowess on home turf, featuring experienced players such as former Fijian Drua prop Timoci Sauvoli, Kini Douglas, and Etonia Rokotuisawa. The Corrections team boasted former sevens representatives and Olympic gold medallist Josua Vakurinabili along with Netani Koroisau.

“This is a milestone for us, particularly as we celebrate 150 years of service to the people of Fiji,” Nute expressed. “The Corrections team put up a good fight but Nasova is our ground, and we battled fiercely.”

He further stated that this win is a heartfelt tribute to former police officers who have dedicated their lives and families to their service.

In another development, Nute mentioned that he would be observing today’s Escott Shield Challenge final between Police Blue and Fresh’et Navy to finalize his selection for the FMF Ratu Sukuna Bowl Challenge. He conveyed a message of determination to his players, noting, “We’ve won the Escott Shield two years in a row, and we believe they can achieve it again if they possess the right mindset.”

The Escott Shield final is scheduled for Buckhurst Park One at 3 PM, while the Koroturaga final featuring Covenant Red and Nabua White will take place at 1 PM. Admission is set at $7 for adults and $2 for children under 12 years.
