Fiji Police: No Reports of Students Engaging in Dark Web Activities

The Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew stated that the Fiji Police Force has not received any reports of school students engaging in sex work on the dark web. He emphasized that no individuals have approached the police to report such cases.

Fong Chew mentioned that discussions about this issue usually arise during awareness sessions led by representatives from non-governmental organizations. His comments followed media reports alleging that some students are uploading explicit images and videos to social media platforms in exchange for cash or other benefits.

He encouraged any students who may be victims of such exploitation to report to the nearest police station. “If individuals know they are victims and have faced such circumstances, please come and inform us so that we can initiate an investigation,” he said.

Fong Chew also advised parents to remain vigilant at all times, not just during school holidays. He stressed the importance of being aware of what children are doing online and monitoring their device usage. He asserted that awareness and guidance should start at home.
