The Fiji Police Force recently conducted a two-day surge operation across Viti Levu, spanning from Navua to Nalawa in Ra. This initiative involved multiple units under the Operations Unit, including Traffic, K-9, Fiji Detector Dog Unit, Water Police, Community Policing, Tourist Police, Crime Stoppers, and even the Fiji Police Band.
During the operation, the Traffic and K-9 units performed random vehicle checks, while Crime Stoppers engaged with high school students through their Scholastic Program. The Tourist Police took the opportunity to visit local hotels, and the Water Police collaborated with Community Policing to raise awareness within communities.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police Kasiano Vusonilawe, the operation successfully caught numerous motorists with expired wheel taxes, overloaded vehicles, and some instances involving drug detection by trained K-9 units. This operation served as a platform for the police to interact with stakeholders and discuss prevailing issues.
SSP Vusonilawe emphasized the need for continued awareness, stating, “This awareness exercise will continue as our way of reminding everyone to abide by the laws at all times. We want you to be safe as we head into another year of festivities.”
The presence of the Fiji Police Band further highlighted the engagement, performing at select locations to foster a sense of community and security.
This proactive approach by the Fiji Police not only ensures public safety but also strengthens community relationships, fostering a spirit of cooperation and adherence to the law as the region approaches a festive season.
In summary, the operation was a multifaceted effort aimed at enhancing safety and awareness, building stronger community ties, and reminding citizens of the importance of following the law for their well-being.
