The Fiji Police Force has initiated an investigation into a traffic accident that took place on Friday, involving a collision between a container trailer and a minibus carrying six passengers. The incident occurred around midday near Lokuya Hill, just past the Verata Junction on Kings Road, en route to Korovou Town in Tailevu North.
Following the collision, both drivers and the six passengers were transported to Korovou Hospital for medical treatment. As the investigation is ongoing, Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, the director of Traffic, is calling on public service vehicle drivers to exercise greater vigilance while driving.
SSP Divuana highlighted the increasing concerns surrounding public safety on the roads, noting that this is the second incident involving public service vehicles within the same week, leading to innocent passengers bearing the brunt of these accidents.
This situation serves as a reminder of the critical importance of road safety and the need for drivers, particularly those operating public transportation, to prioritize the well-being of their passengers and others on the road. Continued efforts to enhance road safety measures could significantly reduce such incidents in the future.
In a hopeful light, the ongoing investigations may result in improved protocols and training for PSVs, which could ultimately lead to safer travel experiences for everyone.
