Fiji Police Force to Seek New Commissioner After Controversial Exit

The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) is preparing to announce the recruitment of a new Commissioner of Police in Fiji shortly. Pio Tikoduadua, the Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration, stated that the COC is progressing with plans to appoint a new leader for the Fiji Police Force.

“The COC will be advertising the position soon. We hope that individuals will apply when the advertisement is published, enabling us to have a permanent commissioner in place quickly,” Mr. Tikoduadua remarked.

This vacancy was created following the resignation of Sitiveni Qiliho, who stepped down while serving a two-year prison sentence after being suspended on January 27. As a result, the COC is moving forward with the search for a new appointee. Currently, the role is temporarily held by Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew.

The COC functions as an advisory group, offering recommendations to the President of Fiji regarding appointments to significant public roles, including the Commissioner of Police. The commission is made up of six members: the Prime Minister, who serves as chairperson, the Leader of the Opposition, the Attorney-General, two members selected by the Prime Minister, and one member chosen by the Opposition Leader.
