The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) is preparing to announce the vacancy for the position of Commissioner of Police shortly. Home Affairs and Immigration Minister Pio Tikoduadua confirmed that the COC is actively working to recruit a new leader for the Fiji Police Force.
“The COC is going to advertise the position soon. We hope that there will be a good number of applicants, and we can have a permanent commissioner in the near future,” Tikoduadua stated.
This vacancy was created after Sitiveni Qiliho, who was suspended on January 27, stepped down earlier this month while serving a two-year prison term. Consequently, the COC is now able to begin the search for a replacement. At present, the Acting Commissioner of Police role is being filled by Juki Fong Chew.
The COC acts as an advisory group to the President of Fiji, helping to appoint significant public positions, including the Commissioner of Police. The commission consists of six members: the Prime Minister, who serves as the chairperson, the Leader of the Opposition, the Attorney-General, two members chosen by the Prime Minister, and one appointed by the Opposition Leader.
