The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) is preparing to announce the opening for the position of Commissioner of Police in the near future. Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration, Pio Tikoduadua, indicated that the COC is making progress in its efforts to appoint a new leader for the Fiji Police Force.
“The COC will be advertising the position soon. We hope to attract applicants once the advertisement is released, enabling us to appoint a substantive commissioner quickly,” stated Mr. Tikoduadua.
This vacancy arose following the resignation of Sitiveni Qiliho, who was suspended on January 27 and is currently serving a two-year prison sentence.
The COC can now commence the search for a new candidate, while the role is temporarily occupied by Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew.
The COC acts as an advisory group that provides recommendations to the President of Fiji concerning key public appointment, including the Commissioner of Police. It consists of six members: the Prime Minister as chairperson, the Leader of the Opposition, and the Attorney-General, while two additional members are appointed by the Prime Minister and one by the Opposition Leader.
