Fiji Police Force Seeks New Leadership: What’s Next?

The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) is preparing to announce the recruitment for the Commissioner of Police position shortly. Pio Tikoduadua, the Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration, indicated that the COC is making progress in its efforts to appoint a new leader for the Fiji Police Force.

“The COC will be advertising the position soon. We hope that many individuals will express their interest when the advertisement is published, allowing us to appoint a permanent commissioner promptly,” stated Mr. Tikoduadua.

This opportunity became available following the resignation of Sitiveni Qiliho, who stepped down earlier this month while serving a two-year prison sentence after his suspension on January 27. In the meantime, the role is currently filled by Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew.

The COC acts as an advisory group that offers recommendations to the President of Fiji regarding the appointment of significant public officials, including the Commissioner of Police. This commission is made up of six members: the Prime Minister serves as the chairperson, and the Leader of the Opposition and the Attorney-General are also included. Additionally, two members are appointed by the Prime Minister, while one is chosen by the Opposition Leader.
