Fiji Police Force Seeks New Leader: Key Vacancy Announcement Soon!

The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) will soon announce the recruitment of a new Commissioner of Police. Home Affairs and Immigration Minister Pio Tikoduadua confirmed that the COC is actively seeking to fill this important role within the Fiji Police Force.

Minister Tikoduadua expressed optimism about the upcoming advertisement for the position, stating, “The COC is going to advertise the position soon. Hopefully people will apply when the advertisement goes up and we can have a substantive commissioner in no time.”

This vacancy was created after Sitiveni Qiliho resigned earlier this month while serving a two-year prison sentence following his suspension on January 27. The current position of Commissioner is being temporarily filled by Acting Commissioner Juki Fong Chew.

The COC plays a key advisory role, making recommendations to the President of Fiji regarding appointments to important public positions, including that of the Commissioner of Police. The COC is comprised of six members, with the Prime Minister serving as chairperson, alongside the Leader of Opposition and the Attorney-General. Additionally, two members are appointed by the Prime Minister and one by the Opposition Leader.
