The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) will soon announce the vacancy for the Commissioner of Police position. Pio Tikoduadua, the Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration, shared that efforts are ongoing to appoint a new leader for the Fiji Police Force.

“The COC will be advertising the position shortly. We hope to see a good number of applicants when the advertisement is released, allowing us to appoint a permanent commissioner quickly,” stated Mr. Tikoduadua.

This vacancy arose following the resignation of Sitiveni Qiliho, who was suspended on January 27 and recently stepped down while serving a two-year prison sentence. Meanwhile, Juki Fong Chew is currently acting as the Commissioner of Police.

The COC plays a vital role as an advisory group, assisting the President of Fiji in appointing various key public officials, including the Commissioner of Police. This commission is made up of six members, featuring the Prime Minister as the chairperson, the Leader of the Opposition, and the Attorney-General. Additionally, two members are appointed by the Prime Minister, while one is chosen by the Opposition Leader.
