Fiji Police Force Poised for New Commissioner: What’s Next?

The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) is preparing to announce the recruitment of a new Commissioner of Police. Pio Tikoduadua, the Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration, stated that the COC is advancing its efforts to appoint a new leader for the Fiji Police Force.

“The COC will soon advertise the position. We hope to see a strong pool of applicants so we can appoint a substantive commissioner quickly,” Mr. Tikoduadua expressed.

The vacancy was created after Sitiveni Qiliho resigned earlier this month while serving a two-year prison sentence, having been suspended on January 27. This development has enabled the COC to move forward with the search for a new appointee, while the role is currently filled by Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew.

The COC functions as an advisory entity that offers recommendations to the President of Fiji concerning the appointment of significant public officials, including the Commissioner of Police. The commission consists of six members, featuring the Prime Minister as chairperson, the Leader of the Opposition, and the Attorney-General. Additionally, two members are chosen by the Prime Minister and one by the Opposition Leader.
