Fiji Police Force Celebrates Historic Bowl Victory

The Fiji Police Force (FPF) celebrated their first victory in the Armed Native Constabulary (ANC) Bowl by dedicating the win to former officers who laid the groundwork for their success. Head coach Solomone Nute made this remark after FPF triumphed over the Fiji Corrections Service with a score of 45-31 at the Nasova grounds in Suva yesterday.

The bowl trophy was presented to the leaders of both organizations by Turaga Na Vunivalu of Bau, Ratu Epenisa Cakobau. This match was a first between the two security forces and coincided with FPF’s 150th Sesquicentennial Anniversary, and it will now become an annual event.

The Police team showcased their strength on home territory, featuring experienced players such as former Fijian Drua prop Timoci Sauvoli, Kini Douglas, and Etonia Rokotuisawa. On the Corrections side were notable athletes including former sevens representatives and Olympic gold medalist Josua Vakurinabili and Netani Koroisau.

“This is a milestone for us, especially as we celebrate 150 years of service to Fiji,” Nute expressed. He acknowledged the strong effort from the Corrections team, stating, “They gave us a good run, but Nasova is our ground, so we fought hard for this victory.”

Nute emphasized that the win serves as a tribute to the former police officers who dedicated their lives to service, including their families.

In addition, Nute mentioned he would be observing the Escott Shield Challenge final between Police Blue and Fresh’et Navy before finalizing his team selection for the FMF Ratu Sukuna Bowl Challenge. “We have won the Escott Shield for two consecutive years, and we want to encourage the boys to believe in their abilities,” he said. The Escott Shield final is scheduled for Buckhurst Park One at 3 PM, while the Koroturaga final between Covenant Red and Nabua White will start at 1 PM. Admission prices are set at $7 for adults and $2 for children under 12 years.
