A significant milestone was celebrated as the Fiji Police Force marked its 150th anniversary at the Nasova Police ground in Suva. During the event, Minister for Home Affairs Pio Tikoduadua reflected on the long journey from Nasova, Levuka to Suva, emphasizing the legacy of those who came before.
The celebration featured a parade involving officers from both the Fiji Police Force and the Fiji Corrections Service, marching from the Totogo Police Station to the academy. Mr. Tikoduadua highlighted the remarkable community service rendered by the Fiji Police Force over the past century and a half.
He expressed gratitude for the dedication of the men and women in uniform, stating that they have consistently executed their responsibilities in challenging circumstances with minimal recognition while striving to ensure community safety and uphold the law.
The minister also acknowledged the important role of the Fiji Corrections Service, stating that their participation in the anniversary honors those who have served in both institutions and recognizes their commitment to Fiji throughout history.
The establishment of the Fiji Police Force dates back to October 10, 1874, when the first officers were appointed, laying the foundation for what the organization represents today.
