The Fiji Police Force aims to reinforce its integrity as it acknowledges the presence of some bad individuals among its ranks. Acting Police Commissioner Juki Fong Chew emphasized that the organization does not tolerate corruption.
In recent years, 28 officers faced charges related to the Illicit Drugs Control Act of 2004. The breakdown of charges reveals five officers charged in 2021, 12 in 2022, and 10 in 2023 for unlawful possession of illicit drugs, while only one officer was charged for unlawful use of illicit drugs in 2022.
Fong Chew stated that officers are regularly reminded of their responsibilities, indicating that any officer’s choice to engage in drug-related activities is personal and not reflective of the organization’s stance. He reaffirmed the police force’s strict enforcement of a zero-tolerance policy regarding drug involvement.
Mr. Fong Chew insisted that the Fiji Police Force strives to maintain its reputation and is actively working to change any negative perceptions. He encouraged the public to report any suspected misconduct, assuring them that investigations would be conducted thoroughly.
