Investigators from the Fiji Police Force are participating in specialized child interview training sessions utilizing video recorded interview (VRI) rooms. This initiative is being conducted with support from the New Zealand Police as part of the Fiji Police Partnership Program.
Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Sakeo Raikaci emphasized the critical role of thorough investigations in securing successful prosecutions, highlighting that proactive policing is just as essential. He noted the grim reality that millions of children globally are victims of crime and sexual violence, a situation that is mirrored in Fiji’s own statistics.
Mr. Raikaci stated, “If we execute our investigations effectively and achieve successful prosecutions, we will send a powerful message that serves as a deterrent.”
