Fiji Police’s MPaisa Task Force has charged two individuals for allegedly obtaining financial gain through deception.

In the first incident, a 35-year-old woman from Namara, Labasa, is accused of taking $320 from a member of the public via the Mpaisa platform on March 16, 2024. Investigations revealed that the victim believed they were sending the money to a family friend who had requested it. Upon checking with the family friend, who denied making the request, the victim reported the matter to the police.

In a separate case, a 20-year-old man from Nabekavu, Labasa, has been charged with dishonest acquisition of $200. The victim allegedly sent this amount on May 15, 2024, in response to a Facebook advertisement for a phone for sale. It is claimed that the accused withdrew the funds and then severed all communication with the victim.

Both individuals are set to appear in the Labasa Magistrates Court today.
