The Fiji Police Force has reported successful operations targeting the illicit drug trade, resulting in several significant seizures of substances believed to be illegal. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, highlighted the effectiveness of recent snap checks, with officers from the Tukavesi Police Station uncovering a stash of dried leaves, suspected to be marijuana, in the luggage compartment of a bus at a roadblock on Bagasau road.
Additionally, during a snap check on Sabeto Road, further branches of dried leaves thought to be marijuana were seized. The drivers of the vehicles involved were arrested for their alleged connection to these offenses.
Further actions by the Southern Division’s Serious Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit (SD/SOCIU) led to the arrest of a 35-year-old man in Navua, who was found in possession of several sachets of what is believed to be methamphetamine, alongside more marijuana. Another individual from the same area was apprehended soon after for similar possession.
A thorough raid in Raiwai, involving the SD SOCIU, K9 Unit, and Fiji Detector Dog Unit, resulted in the arrests of three individuals—a man and a woman—following the discovery of substances suspected to be methamphetamine, items believed to be stolen, along with various currencies.
All confiscated substances will be analyzed to determine their exact nature. The Fiji Police have stated that joint operations will persist across all five policing divisions to combat drug-related crimes effectively.
The ongoing efforts by law enforcement in Fiji showcase their commitment to tackling drug trafficking and ensuring a safer environment for communities. Continued vigilance through these operations emphasizes the importance of collaborative policing in maintaining public safety and deterring drug-related activities.
