The Fiji Police Force has reported significant success in their recent crackdown on the illegal drug trade, thanks to a series of snap checks. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu highlighted the effectiveness of these operations, which have resulted in numerous seizures of illicit substances across various locations.
At a roadblock on Bagasau, officers from the Tukavesi Police Station discovered a black bag containing dried leaves, suspected to be marijuana, in the luggage compartment of a bus. Additional seizures occurred during a snap check at Sabeto Road, where several branches of what is believed to be marijuana were confiscated, leading to the arrest of the vehicle’s two occupants.
Further operations by the Southern Division’s Serious Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit (SD/SOCIU) led to the apprehension of a 35-year-old man in Navua, who was found in possession of sachets of white substances, suspected to be methamphetamine, as well as dried marijuana leaves. Another 35-year-old individual from the same area was arrested shortly after with additional marijuana.
A recent raid conducted by the SD SOCIU, supported by the K9 and Fiji Detector Dog Unit in Raiwai, resulted in the arrest of three individuals—two men and one woman. This operation uncovered various items believed to be stolen, as well as foreign and local currencies alongside the suspected methamphetamine.
All seized substances have been forwarded for analysis, and authorities have indicated that joint raids will persist throughout the five policing divisions to further dismantle drug-related activities.
This proactive approach by the Fiji Police Force demonstrates a commitment to enhancing community safety and combating drug misuse effectively. Continued vigilance and coordination among policing units could lead to a significant reduction in crime and an improved quality of life for residents.
In summary, the Fiji Police Force is intensifying efforts against drug trafficking with successful operations resulting in multiple arrests and seizures, showing promise for a safer and drug-free community in the future.
