Fiji Police Commissioner Position to Be Advertised Soon

The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) is preparing to announce the recruitment process for a new Commissioner of Police soon. Pio Tikoduadua, the Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration, stated that the COC has been actively working to appoint a new leader for the Fiji Police Force.

“The COC will be advertising the position shortly. We hope that a number of candidates will apply once the advertisement is published, allowing us to appoint a new commissioner promptly,” Mr. Tikoduadua remarked.

The need for a new commissioner emerged following the resignation of Sitiveni Qiliho, who stepped down earlier this month while serving a two-year prison sentence. As a result, the COC can move forward in its search for a new candidate. Currently, the role is temporarily filled by Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew.

The COC acts as an advisory entity, providing recommendations to the President of Fiji on the appointment of important public offices, including the Commissioner of Police. The commission consists of six members, including the Prime Minister as chairperson, the Leader of the Opposition, and the Attorney-General. Additionally, two members are appointed by the Prime Minister, while one is selected by the Opposition Leader.
