“Fiji Police Chief Urges Officers to Change Public Perception Amidst Controversy”

Acting Commissioner Juki Fong Chew declared that the Fiji Police Force is not corrupt, attributing the negative perception to the actions of a minority. During the Division’s Medal award ceremony at the Fiji Police Academy, he urged officers to strive for improved public perception through exemplary conduct.

Chew emphasized the importance of collective effort in changing the public’s view. He acknowledged receiving commendations for the police’s work but noted that these praises are overshadowed by negative incidents when an officer faces legal action.

He expressed a positive outlook on criticism, asserting that police officers have the potential to reform. Chew encouraged the officers to remain dedicated to their duties in light of the changing criminal environment.

He urged them to view each day as a chance to improve, not only for themselves and their families but also for the communities they serve. During the ceremony, Chew presented the Fiji Police Medal, Fiji Police Long Service Medal, and Fiji Police Overseas Service Medals to various officers from multiple departments within the force.
