The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) plans to soon announce the vacancy for the position of Commissioner of Police. Pio Tikoduadua, the Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration, stated that the commission is actively working to appoint a new leader for the Fiji Police Force.
“The COC is going to advertise the position soon. Hopefully, people will apply when the advertisement goes up, and we can have a substantive commissioner in no time,” Mr. Tikoduadua expressed.
This vacancy emerged following the resignation of Sitiveni Qiliho, who had been suspended on January 27 and is currently serving a two-year prison sentence. In the interim, the role is being filled by Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew.
The COC acts as an advisory body to the President of Fiji regarding appointments to significant public positions, including the Commissioner of Police. The commission consists of six members: the Prime Minister as chairperson, the Leader of Opposition, and the Attorney-General, with two additional members appointed by the Prime Minister and one selected by the Opposition Leader.
