The Fiji Police Force (FPF) has honored former officers by celebrating their first win in the Armed Native Constabulary (ANC) Bowl. Head coach Solomone Nute expressed this sentiment after the team triumphed over the Fiji Corrections Service with a score of 45-31 at the Nasova grounds in Suva.
The bowl was awarded by Turaga Na Vunivalu of Bau, Ratu Epenisa Cakobau, to the leaders of both security forces. This match marked a historic first encounter between the two agencies and was part of the FPF’s 150th anniversary celebrations, establishing the contest as an annual event.
The FPF team showcased strength on their home turf, featuring notable players like former Fijian Drua prop Timoci Sauvoli, Kini Douglas, and Etonia Rokotuisawa. The Corrections Service fielded former sevens representatives and Olympic gold medalist Josua Vakurinabili alongside Netani Koroisau.
“This is a milestone for us, especially in our 150 years of service to Fiji,” said Nute. “The Corrections team put up a good fight, but since Nasova is our ground, we fought fiercely. This victory is a special tribute to our former police officers who sacrificed greatly for their families, and we continue to serve in their honor.”
In other news, Nute mentioned he will be observing today’s Escott Shield Challenge final between Police Blue and Fresh’et Navy, which plays a critical role in finalizing the team selection for the FMF Ratu Sukuna Bowl Challenge.
“We have won the Escott Shield for two consecutive years, and we want to instill the belief in the boys that they can achieve success with determination,” he stated. “We are hoping for a strong performance tomorrow.”
The Escott Shield final is scheduled to take place at Buckhurst Park One at 3 PM, while the Koroturaga final between Covenant Red and Nabua White will be held at 1 PM. Admission fees are set at $7 for adults and $2 for children under 12 years.
