Fiji Police Celebrate Historic Bowl Win with a Nod to the Past

The Fiji Police Force (FPF) celebrated their first-ever Armed Native Constabulary (ANC) Bowl victory, dedicating the achievement to the former officers who laid the foundation for their success. Coach Solomone Nute made this statement following their 45-31 victory over the Fiji Corrections Service at Nasova grounds in Suva yesterday.

The bowl was presented to leaders of both organizations by Turaga Na Vunivalu of Bau, Ratu Epenisa Cakobau. This match marked a historic first encounter between the two security forces as part of the FPF’s 150th Sesquicentennial Anniversary, with plans in place for it to become an annual challenge.

The FPF’s team, known as the Blues, displayed dominance at their home ground, featuring experienced players such as former Fijian Drua prop Timoci Sauvoli, Kini Douglas, and Etonia Rokotuisawa. The Corrections team included former sevens representatives and Olympic gold medallist Josua Vakurinabili and Netani Koroisau.

“This is a milestone for us, especially coming after 150 years of service for the whole of Fiji,” Nute stated. “Corrections put up a strong fight, but since Nasova is our home ground, we battled fiercely for victory. This win is a special tribute to our former police officers who dedicated their lives to serving Fiji, their families, and their children.”

In another upcoming event, Nute plans to observe the Escott Shield Challenge final featuring Police Blue against Fresh’et Navy to finalize his selection for the FMF Ratu Sukuna Bowl Challenge. “We have won the Escott Shield for two consecutive years, and our message to the players is that they can achieve this if they put their hearts into it. We are hopeful they will succeed tomorrow,” he said.

The Escott Shield final is scheduled for Buckhurst Park One at 3 PM, while the Koroturaga final will take place at 1 PM between Covenant Red and Nabua White. Admission prices are set at $7 for adults and $2 for children under 12 years.
