The Fiji Police Force (FPF) celebrated their first win of the Armed Native Constabulary (ANC) Bowl, honoring former officers who laid the groundwork for their success. Police head coach Solomone Nute made this statement after their impressive 45-31 victory over the Fiji Corrections Service at the Nasova grounds in Suva.

The trophy was awarded to the leaders of both agencies by Turaga Na Vunivalu of Bau, Ratu Epenisa Cakobau. This match marked the first encounter between the two security entities, commemorating the FPF’s 150th anniversary, and it has now been established as an annual challenge.

The Blues team showcased their experience with accomplished players such as former Fijian Drua prop Timoci Sauvoli, Kini Douglas, and Etonia Rokotuisawa. The Corrections team featured notable athletes including Olympic gold medallist Josua Vakurinabili and former sevens representative Netani Koroisau.

“This is a significant achievement for us, especially as we celebrate 150 years of service to all of Fiji,” Nute expressed. “The Corrections team put up a good fight, but Nasova is our home ground, and we were determined to win.”

He added, “This victory is a heartfelt tribute to our former police officers who dedicated their lives to service, leaving behind their families and loved ones, and we carry on their legacy today.”

In relation to upcoming matches, Nute mentioned that he would be watching the Escott Shield Challenge final between Police Blue and Fresh’et Navy before making his final selections for the FMF Ratu Sukuna Bowl Challenge.

“We’ve won the Escott Shield for two consecutive years, and our message to the players is that they can achieve success if they put their hearts into it. We hope for a strong performance and a win tomorrow,” he stated.

The Escott Shield final is scheduled to take place at Buckhurst Park One at 3 PM, while the Koroturaga final, featuring Covenant Red versus Nabua White, will begin at 1 PM. Admission fees are set at $7 for adults and $2 for children under 12 years.
