Fiji has expressed its willingness to host the regional policing centres of excellence as part of the Pacific Policing Initiative (PPI). These centres will provide training, support, research, and best practices in various areas of policing.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka made this announcement during his keynote speech at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2024 Pacific Policing Event held in Sagafili Village, Samoa, last week. He stated, “A key component of the Pacific Policing Initiative is the establishment of the regional policing centres of excellence. I’m pleased that Fiji is ready to step forward as a host for one of these centres.”

Mr. Rabuka highlighted that Fiji possesses the necessary facilities and infrastructure to support this regional initiative. The goal of the PPI is to standardize policing efforts across the Pacific, with three main components: Regional Centres of Excellence, a Deployable Pacific Policing Support Group (PPSG), and a Coordination Hub located in Brisbane.

He also mentioned the potential to enhance Australian support for Fiji’s Black Rock training facility in Nadi, which serves not only as a military base but also as a police and disaster relief center.
