Netball Fiji is currently in the process of searching for a new head coach for the Fiji Pearls following the departure of Unaisi Rokoura. In the interim, Jioweli Vakamoce, who recently led the Men’s Netball team to victory in the Nations Series, will take charge of the Pearls’ training sessions. The team is scheduled to regroup soon as they prepare for the PacificAus Sport Series set to take place in Brisbane next month.
Despite having advertised the head coach position late last year, Netball Fiji announced that they would be re-advertising the role after thoughtful consideration. The initial recruitment process drew interest from several international coaches, but the organization aims to ensure they find the perfect candidate to align with their strategic goals over the next three years.
RubyAnn Sorovaki, the president of Netball Fiji, emphasized the importance of the head coach’s role, highlighting that it significantly impacts both the performance of the Pearls and the development of talent and coaching pathways in the sport. In December, it was confirmed that Rokoura’s contract with Netball Fiji had officially ended.
This period of transition for the Fiji Pearls represents an opportunity for revitalization and growth within the team. With a national coach hopefully soon to be found, the focus will be on nurturing the sport’s future talents and achieving competitive success in upcoming international events.
By fostering a robust leadership structure, Netball Fiji is reaffirming its commitment to the development of the sport and its athletes, paving the way for a promising future.
