A flash flood warning is currently active across all low-lying and flood-prone areas in Fiji, as well as small streams, according to the Nadi weather office. Residents are advised to be particularly cautious around 3:00 PM today, coinciding with high tide, which previously resulted in flooding in Nadi.
In the past 24 hours, significant rainfall has been recorded in several locations, including Nadarivatu with 186.5mm, Momi with 96.5mm, and Sigatoka with 76.0mm, among others. Fortunately, the Fiji Roads Authority has announced that Queens Road through Nadi Town is now open to all traffic. They urge motorists to remain vigilant, as some road sections may still be wet and slippery due to the recent downpour.
Currently, a heavy rain warning is in effect for the entire Fiji group, as an active trough of low pressure brings continued cloud cover and rainfall to the region.
In light of the challenging weather conditions, it’s crucial for residents to stay informed and prepared while showing resilience in the face of nature’s unpredictability. There is hope that the community will work together to navigate this situation safely, and support systems are available to assist those in need.
