The Republic of Fiji Navy is investigating an incident involving a Goundar Shipping vessel that became stranded at Cakova Reef near Moala Island. Reports began circulating on social media when a concerned individual posted about his brother being on board, appealing for assistance for the passengers aboard the ship.
In response to inquiries, a representative from Goundar Shipping reassured anxious family members that they had been in contact with the vessel’s captain, who confirmed that all passengers and crew members were safe. To facilitate their rescue, the company plans to send a second vessel to retrieve those on the stranded ship.
While the identity of the rescue vessel has not been disclosed, it is believed to be one originally scheduled for a trip to Kadavu later this evening. Due to this emergency situation, the company has announced that the journey to Kadavu has been cancelled.
The rescue vessel is expected to set sail tonight and reach the stranded vessel by today, ensuring the safe return of all individuals on board.
This situation, while distressing, showcases the swift response by the Navy and Goundar Shipping, prioritizing passenger safety and demonstrating strong community support through social media channels. It’s reassuring to see coordinated efforts to resolve the incident effectively, reflecting a commitment to the well-being of those affected.
