The RFMF Naval Division successfully completed a series of operations to enforce maritime law, focusing especially on fisheries protection.
The division, operating from Forward Base North and Forward Base West, teamed up with the Fiji Police and Fiji Ministry Fisheries in an effort to preserve the sanctity of maritime resources.
A notable operation conducted from Forward Base West resulted in Navy personnel and partnering agencies detaining several suspected vessels involved in illicit fishing activities. The operations exposed the use of dynamite for fishing, a highly destructive and illegal approach that severely threatens marine ecosystems.
The Navy’s successful operations have been greatly due to their collaboration with the Fiji Police and Fiji Fisheries, highlighting the value of unity in battling unlawful practices.
In their ongoing fight against such illegalities, the Fiji Navy along with its partners will persistently monitor our waters, ensuring the protection of our fisheries. The recent detainment acts as a severe warning to those engaged in illegal fishing activities, reinforcing that such practices will not be tolerated.
