The Fiji National University’s Nasinu Campus buzzed with activity last week as over a thousand prospective students attended the university’s open day. Featuring participation from 45 schools, the event provided students with valuable information regarding their future study choices.
Under the theme “Dream it, Weave it, Achieve it,” the open day served as an opportunity to showcase the university’s diverse programs. Vice-Chancellor Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba emphasized that the event was not only about education but also about exploring the myriad opportunities available at FNU.
“Whether you’re considering your next steps in education or simply curious, you’ll find plenty of inspiration to turn your dreams into reality,” she remarked. During the open day, applications for Semester 1, 2025 were accepted, and successful applicants received instant provision offer letters.
Finau Joy Afeaki Batiweti, a Bachelor of Science in Fisheries student at the College of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry (CAFF), expressed her enthusiasm for the event, noting the importance of sharing knowledge with her peers. She highlighted that many students associate the CAFF with agriculture alone, but the college also offers programs in fisheries and forestry.
“I advise students to explore their options and ask the right questions about our offerings and potential career paths,” she said, encouraging them to consider the multiple job opportunities available in the fisheries field and to broaden their perspective beyond traditional jobs.
Epeli Cagialau, a Year 13 student from the Latter-Day Saints Church College studying carpentry and automotive engineering, also found the open day enriching. As he toured the engineering booth, he gained insights into various engine types on display and expressed his interest in the automotive sector.
“It’s a great experience being here, especially learning about the different engines,” he stated. Cagialau took advantage of the opportunity to engage with university students involved in apprenticeships with automotive companies.
The two-day open day in Nasinu attracted thousands of visitors, and similar events were held at the university’s Naduna, Namaka, and Natabua campuses last week.
