Over 20,000 attendees participated in the Fiji National University (FNU) Open Day across four campuses, marking the highest attendance in the event’s history. The Open Day took place on October 3 and 4 at the Naduna, Namaka, Natabua, and Nasinu campuses, with the Nasinu campus attracting 10,000 visitors on the first day alone.
FNU Vice-Chancellor Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba thanked everyone who contributed to the event’s success. She highlighted the diverse turnout, including not only school students but also families, particularly on the second day. Professor Nabobo-Baba noted the importance of parents engaging with lecturers and students regarding future opportunities for their children.
This year’s Open Day offered students and their families a chance to explore various academic programs available at the university. The event included participation from eight special schools and two kindergartens, illustrating the increasing interest in early exposure to higher education options.
“Parents and students were able to gain direct insights into campus life and the different courses FNU offers,” Nabobo-Baba remarked. “The strong turnout reflects the growing interest from schools and former students in pursuing their education with us.”
For families like that of Jone Ravuikadavu, who attended the second day with his three young daughters, the event proved to be a valuable experience. “Even though my children are still in primary school, this Open Day gave them early exposure to practical courses. They especially enjoyed the live animal display at the College of Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry booth,” Ravuikadavu shared.
With a wide range of activities and information booths, the FNU Open Day catered to all ages and interests, ensuring that attendees departed with a better understanding of their educational opportunities.
