Fiji National University (FNU) is making significant strides in expanding educational opportunities for students in remote regions, highlighted by a successful outreach initiative recently completed across the Kadavu and Lomaiviti Groups. This initiative aims to bridge the gap in access to education, particularly in areas facing geographical challenges.
Semisi Caucau, a teacher at Koro High School, expressed his gratitude towards FNU, commending their dedication to supporting students in their educational endeavors. He emphasized how this support has positively impacted students’ aspirations, empowering them to pursue their academic goals with confidence. Mr. Caucau’s sentiments reflect the transformative power of FNU’s outreach programs, which significantly benefit local communities.
The outreach campaign included engaging sessions at various schools, such as Vunisea Secondary School, Richmond High School, and the concluding visit to Levuka Public School. FNU representatives provided Year 12 and Year 13 students with essential information about different academic programs and guided them through the application process, fostering a deeper understanding of their options.
Vijayta Sharma, the acting manager of outreach, highlighted the enthusiasm and eagerness of the students at Vunisea, who actively engaged with FNU staff to understand how the university’s programs could align with their future career goals. The excitement among Year 13 students as they explored pathways for the upcoming academic year was particularly notable.
The initiative not only served to provide crucial academic information but also bolstered the relationship between FNU and the communities it serves, showcasing the university’s commitment to empowering students through education. Additionally, at Gau Secondary School, the dedication shown by Year 13 students who spent their Saturday meeting with FNU staff to complete applications further demonstrated their commitment to planning for their futures.
The outreach campaign concluded on a high note at Levuka Public School, where FNU representatives connected with students, answered their queries, and walked them through the application process, reinforcing their support for the students’ educational journeys.
This initiative serves as a hopeful reminder of how educational institutions can make a positive impact on communities, particularly in remote regions. By prioritizing accessibility to education, FNU not only empowers students but also fosters a culture of learning and ambition that can lead to a brighter future for all involved.
