In an admirable initiative aimed at improving educational access for students in remote Fijian communities, the Fiji National University (FNU) outreach team has successfully completed an application drive across the Kadavu and Lomaiviti Groups. This effort reflects FNU’s commitment to overcoming geographical barriers and is welcomed by Koro High School teacher Semisi Caucau, who expressed his gratitude for the university’s dedication to supporting aspiring students in their academic pursuits.
Caucau noted, “Your willingness to assist our students with their applications has made a profound impact, opening doors for them to pursue their aspirations confidently.” His acknowledgment highlights the significant influence FNU’s outreach initiatives have on local communities, emphasizing the university’s focus on the future of its students. He also expressed hope for future collaborations, which illustrates the potential for lasting partnerships between educational institutions and local communities.
The outreach campaign included informative sessions at a number of schools, such as Vunisea Secondary School, Richmond High School, and Levuka Public School. FNU representatives actively engaged with Year 12 and Year 13 students, offering insights into various academic programs and assisting them with the application process.
Vijayta Sharma, the acting manager of outreach, shared her observations on the enthusiasm of students, particularly noting the eagerness displayed by Year 13 students at Vunisea as they sought to understand how FNU’s programs aligned with their career aspirations. She remarked, “The excitement was palpable as Year 13 students interacted with our team, eager to explore their options for the 2025 Semester 1 academic year.”
The initiative not only provided valuable academic information but also strengthened the relationship between FNU and the communities it serves, reinforcing the university’s dedication to empowering students in their educational journeys. At Gau Secondary School, students’ commitment to their futures was evident when Year 13 participants dedicated their Saturday to meet with FNU staff and complete their applications.
The outreach campaign concluded at Levuka Public School, where the FNU team connected with students, answering their queries and guiding them through the application steps. This collaborative spirit is a testament to the positive impact of FNU’s outreach efforts on the educational landscape in these communities.
Overall, this initiative serves as an encouraging example of how educational institutions can work together with local communities to foster aspiration and create greater access to learning opportunities, paving the way for a brighter future for all students involved.
