The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) will resume its Phase 2 of the reconciliation and restoration program early next year. This phase is set to focus on community engagement and outreach efforts, particularly addressing the needs of communities impacted by past coups.
RFMF Commander, Major-General Ro Jone Kalouniwai, emphasized that this phase is crucial for restoring trust within the institution. He stated, “The RFMF phase 2 will reconvene next year, where we will now visit communities and reconcile with them.” This initiative aims to foster dialogue, allowing them to listen to personal survival stories and facilitate broader institutional reconciliation efforts.
Major-General Kalouniwai expressed the importance of this process in healing and emphasized the need to seek genuine apologies from the Fijian people. He conveyed that this upcoming phase will offer a significant opportunity for the RFMF to rebuild relationships and trust among the citizens.
This effort towards reconciliation presents a positive step for Fiji, as it shows a commitment from the RFMF to connect with and listen to the communities they serve. Such initiatives may foster a greater understanding and pave the way for lasting unity and peace in the nation.
In summary, the RFMF’s upcoming reconciliation phase aims to engage with affected communities, emphasize healing, and work towards restoring trust with the Fijian people. This reflects a hopeful direction for improved relations in the country.
