Fiji Military Leader Backs Constitutional Amendments: A New Approach?

Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai, the Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, expressed his views on the government’s initiative to review the 2013 Constitution. He stated that there is no issue with testing constitutional provisions for amendments. Kalouniwai noted that if attempts to test these provisions yield no results, it may warrant the consideration of alternative actions. He emphasized the RFMF’s consistent support for the rule of law and adherence to established processes. The major general highlighted that the constitution contains provisions that allow the government to make changes, affirming that the decision to review the 2013 Constitution is a politically valid choice by the government.
