The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) is set to offer a traditional apology to the families of the eight soldiers who lost their lives during the military mutiny on November 2, 2000. The families of these CRW soldiers have gathered at Queen Elizabeth Barracks for this significant event. As a gesture of respect and remembrance, the military has prepared eight traditional mats, known as ‘na i vivivi’, to honor each of the fallen soldiers.
This ceremony is a part of the RFMF’s broader Reconciliation and Restoration initiative, signaling a step towards healing and mending relationships between the military and the affected families.
The RFMF’s actions exemplify a commitment to recognizing past grievances and fostering reconciliation, which is essential for building a more united and peaceful community in Fiji. This meaningful gesture illustrates the importance of remembrance and healing in moving forward together.
In essence, this ceremony holds the potential to bridge divides and facilitate healing, providing hope for a more harmonious future for all those impacted by the events of the past.
