The Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), Major-General Ro Jone Kalouniwai, has stated that officers do not receive training in orchestrating coups during their overseas education or training. Speaking on the program The Lens @177, he addressed the misconception about military training abroad and coup execution.
Kalouniwai emphasized that the training occurs in democratic nations, where the focus is far from any discussions on coups. He noted that military personnel are primarily assigned to examine national security and defense in relation to local developments, along with understanding the evolving global security landscape.
He condemned coups as illegal acts that lead to adverse consequences, reflecting on the three coups that have occurred in Fiji and their negative aftermath.
