The Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), Major-General Ro Jone Kalouniwai, emphasized that officers do not receive training on orchestrating coups while abroad for their education and training. During an interview on The Lens @177, he responded to inquiries regarding the potential for officers to learn coup tactics during international training.
Kalouniwai clearly stated that such teachings do not occur, as the training programs are conducted in democratic nations where the focus is on security and defense, not on illegal activities such as coups. He underlined that officers are primarily engaged in understanding security dynamics within Fiji and the evolving global security landscape.
Furthermore, he condemned coups as unlawful actions that should never take place, reflecting on Fiji’s past experiences with coups and the negative consequences they have brought to the nation.
