OSEA Kolinisau, the head coach of the Fiji Airways men’s sevens team, has welcomed two players into the national camp following the recent conclusion of the Fiji Bitter Kadavu 7s tournament. George Bose from the BLK Lavidi Brothers and Alusio Vakadranu of Wardens Gold were selected to join the training squad, which is currently progressing into its second week.
This marks Bose’s first opportunity to train with the national team, while Vakadranu is returning after previously representing Fiji in the HSBC Sevens World Series last season. Kolinisau attended the tournament, held at the Namalata District School from September 17 to 19, and expressed gratitude towards Fiji Bitter for their ongoing support of grassroots rugby in Fiji.
“It was great to visit Kadavu and witness the kickoff of the Fiji Bitter 7s series. I appreciate Fiji Bitter’s commitment to supporting grassroots rugby,” Kolinisau remarked. Despite some challenges posed by adverse weather during the tournament, the focus remains on the positive contributions that such initiatives make towards the development of the sport in the country.
This initiative not only highlights the talent emerging from local tournaments but also emphasizes the importance of corporate backing in nurturing the future of rugby in Fiji. As the team continues to train and prepare for upcoming competitions, the inclusion of new talent bodes well for their prospects.
In summary, the selection of new players from the Kadavu 7s showcases the ongoing efforts to fortify the Fiji men’s sevens team, reinforcing the vital link between local events and national representation. The continued sponsorship from Fiji Bitter further supports this development, encouraging a thriving rugby culture in Fiji.
