Fiji Marriott’s Green Mission: 3000 Mangroves by 2024!

Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay recently celebrated World Mangrove Day by organizing a mangrove-planting event in partnership with the Mamanuca Environment Society. The event saw enthusiastic participation from 40 associates and guests who collectively planted 1,000 mangroves.

This initiative is part of the resort’s ambitious target to plant a total of 3,000 mangroves by the end of 2024, demonstrating its commitment to preserving and enhancing local ecosystems. General Manager Silvano Dressino emphasized that sustainability is central to their operations.

“World Mangrove Day is an excellent opportunity for our associates and guests to make a significant environmental impact. We are eager to witness the positive results of our efforts and continue striving towards our mangrove planting goals,” he stated.

Dressino mentioned that Ms. Mataika would play a vital role in advancing the resort’s environmental projects. He added, “Participating in sustainability initiatives like mangrove planting allows our guests and staff to experience a ‘Momi Moment’ — a special connection to the environment and local community beyond their stay.”

In celebration of World Mangrove Day, the resort’s beverage team also created two special cocktails: the Mangrove Martini and Coastal Breeze, using fresh herbs from the resort’s garden.

“For each cocktail sold, the hotel will donate $12 to the Mamanuca Environment Society (MES), supporting ongoing collaborations aimed at ocean conservation in Fiji,” Dressino noted.

Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay remains dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability and encouraging community involvement through these meaningful initiatives.
