Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay recently celebrated World Mangrove Day by organizing a mangrove planting event in collaboration with the Mamanuca Environment Society. The event witnessed active participation from 40 associates and guests who collectively planted 1,000 mangroves.
This activity is part of the resort’s broader initiative to plant a total of 3,000 mangroves by the end of 2024, demonstrating its dedication to preserving and enhancing local ecosystems. General Manager Silvano Dressino emphasized that sustainability is a fundamental aspect of their operations.
“World Mangrove Day provides a fantastic opportunity for our associates and guests to make a meaningful environmental impact. We are excited to see the positive effects of our efforts and to continue working towards our mangrove planting goals,” he stated.
Mr. Dressino noted that Ms. Mataika will play a significant role in spearheading the resort’s environmental initiatives. He explained that participating in sustainability efforts like mangrove planting allows guests and staff to experience a “Momi Moment,” which reflects a unique connection to the environment and the local community beyond their stay.
In line with World Mangrove Day, the resort’s beverage team also created two distinctive cocktails: the Mangrove Martini and Coastal Breeze, which feature fresh herbs from the resort’s garden. For every cocktail sold, the hotel pledged to donate $12 to the Mamanuca Environment Society (MES) to support ongoing ocean conservation efforts in Fiji.
Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay remains devoted to promoting environmental sustainability and encouraging community engagement through these meaningful initiatives.
